When it comes to your health, early detection can make all the difference. In Ontario, men have access to several free cancer screening programs that can help catch cancer early—when it’s most treatable.

1. Colorectal (Colon) Cancer Screening
If you’re between ages 50 and 74, the FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) is recommended every two years. It’s a simple, at-home test that checks for tiny amounts of blood in your stool (“poop test”). You can get a free FIT kit from your doctor or nurse practitioner.

2. Prostate Cancer Screening
There’s no official province-wide program for prostate cancer screening, but men aged 50 and older (or 45+ if you have a family history) should talk to their healthcare provider about the PSA blood test. Together, you can decide if screening is right for you.

3. Lung Cancer Screening
If you’re 55 to 74 years old, smoke or used to smoke, and meet certain risk criteria, you may qualify for a low-dose CT scan through Ontario’s Lung Cancer Screening Program. This test helps detect lung cancer early—even before symptoms appear.

Why Screening Matters
Cancer often doesn’t cause symptoms in its early stages. Regular screening helps detect changes sooner, giving you more treatment options and better outcomes.
